Personality: NOTE: Major plot spoilers are not present, but some spoilers for confidant link WILL appear! Since I know some people like to not see those, I have whited them out.

Makoto is almost always calm and serious. As president of the student council, she revels in order, putting things to sense and logic, hard work, and getting everyone involved. These are her responsibilities. She keeps cool and studies hard, both enemies and schoolwork. In other words, she's a perfectionist. She's mature and reliable, the exact kind of person teachers rely on - and do, enough to make her a chaperone on other years' field trips.

Which isn't to say that she is cold! Far from it. Makoto is understanding and kind, and extremely compassionate to others. She goes above and beyond to help others. She wants to help and to be there. Sometimes this means becoming reckless and forgoing logic. Thankfully, her friends' influence and support means that she isn't desperate to prove her usefulness anymore, so there's much less of that. It also means that when a teammate or friend, or even a fellow student under her watchful class president eye is in danger or distress, she will be there to offer words of wisdom or a comforting arm.

Unless there are ghosts. She is afraid of ghosts. And scary movies.

Because of the pressures put on her by teachers, family and adults in general, Makoto once devoted herself to other peoples' wants. There was a long time that these opinions caused her to think less of herself. Being told to "Endure it" and "Do as she is told", that she is "useless" and "eating away at her sister's life" took its toll. She began to feel like the worthless burden she was said to be. Her older sister Sae is an important public figure; a prosecutor working with police to solve the Phantom Thieves problem. Their relationship is more than a little rocky. Ever since the death of their father three years ago, Sae has been taking care of her sister, a problem she never asked for - and one she often reminded her sister of in her own darkest moments.

Being told all that time and time again left Makoto distressed. She believed that if she followed the rules to the letter, that nothing would be her fault. She played by the rules. She didn't do anything wrong; someone else did. Any attempt at speaking out over something clearly unjust, such as a teacher forcing himself on students, was quickly dismissed. Teachers and the principal reminded her that she should not become a problem to her sister, and to keep up her hard work to get that college recommendation letter. It took the Phantom Thieves reaching out to her for her to really open her eyes and gave her the courage and strength to admit that that was wrong. All that she had known was unjust all along, every wrongdoing she sat idly by, was just another reminder of a rotten world that needed to be fixed. A world she could, at their side, help to change.

Now that she has found the freedom to make her own choices, she also has the freedom to pursue her newfound interests: Catching up on things modern teenagers do, rather than the tests they take. She likes learning! She also likes making new friends and helping them, even if it makes them upset. To help a friend in a dangerous situation, she would certainly go behind their back to do the right and just thing. Being the comforter does not mean being the coddler, after all.

Under extreme pressure, Makoto's logic and cool-headed nature fails and desperation takes its reckless hold. If it means proving herself or protecting someone else, she's not afraid to throw herself headfirst into danger. Like becoming bait for the mafia's blackmail ring all for the sake of helping... and earning an enormous debt in the process.

Confidant spoilers: While researching modern activities, Makoto met up with a classmate Eiko, working in the red-light district of Shinjuku. Despite being total opposites, the two made fast friends though Makoto struggled somewhat to understand the abundance of chatspeak and emojis that this friendship brought with it.

When she realized that her friend Eiko's new boyfriend Tsukasa was acting awfully shady, Makoto investigated him even with Eiko yelling at her to just leave them alone in their honeymoon happiness. When Makoto learned she was right to mistrust Tsukasa (a liar, a cheat, AND a notorious playboy famous for forcing teenage girls to pay his faked debts until they had to sell their own bodies), her only instinct was to trick him into revealing his cruel true nature to Eiko's face by setting him up in a devious trap. Though Eiko was still mad that Makoto had intruded upon her happiness, telling her to "leave it alone" again, Makoto reacted strongly. Risking friendship for the sake of what was right, she straight up slapped Eiko across the face and told her to wake up to reality. Don't worry; they made up later.

Makoto wants to use her abilities to give people courage to stand up for themselves, since joining the team gave her that same courage. She could escape the prison the adults in her life built around her from their expectations and disregard of her happiness. It also gave her an outlet for her pent-up rage and a safe release for the pressure she needs to vent from her daily struggles. Acting as the Phantom Thieves' advisor is a role she takes on with ease and gladness. Makoto likes putting plans (and traps) together, and keeping record of the Shadows weaknesses and strengths.

Abilities: Makoto is a Persona user, Personas being a manifestation of one's inner self. Other than summoning her ultimate trickster Persona Anat, and the skills and magic spells Anat has, there's nothing too exciting. Makoto's elemental alignment is Nuclear (yes, that's a real magic) and she knows healing as well. Without her Persona, she's just a hard worker.

Alignment: Sosyne. While she is most of the time calm and level headed, she does tend to start cracking under pressure. And when Makoto rages things get broken. Especially bad guys.
