[No matter how much time passes, it would always be difficult. She is sure of that. True, she may not know what happened between the brothers, but there isn't much that would make going against a sibling any easier.

That's true, but... Well, Hubert's a lieutenant in the Strahtan military. I'm sure he'll be returning to his duties and to the Oswells eventually -- that's a boat ride away, across the desert. We won't be able to see each other as much when that happens.

I'm ... not sure I follow all of that, but I get that there's some physical distance to cover as well? And to be a high ranking military man at his age... That's very impressive. No doubt he has responsibilities, but that doesn't mean you can't still interact. Can you write?

...See, Hubert was adopted by the Oswell family when we were young. They live in the Strahtan capital, in another country. That's why.
Believe me, I was impressed too. Hubert's always been really smart, but he was such a fearful kid -- he used to grab onto my sleeve and cry. He's changed a lot since then.
I'm not much for letters but I tried sending him one after it happened. He never wrote me back. I wonder what would happen if I sent him one now?

If the letter did get out, it might arrive to him at the same time you were released. Things back home aren't supposed to happen without us. No one ever notices someone is missing.

I was so pissed off. I couldn't believe Dad would do that without even asking how we felt about it. Hubert was already gone when I found out, and after that, I left home.
[Just another of those old-fashioned things that went out of style, right?] ...I know he did it because he was worried we'd fight over the lordship, but. Well. He probably never considered we'd end up fighting anyway.

Guess I'd have to try it to find out for sure. But it might be a good way to tell him about everything that's happened. Even if it doesn't get to him for a long time, and even if we're not together, he could still read over them and know.
